Cross Sticking
Cross sticking is a technique used commonly in jazz, latin, and ballads. It makes a "click" sound. It is sometimes called a closed rim shot.
To perform a closed rim shot, place the butt end of the stick in the middle of your snare. This will dampen the tone making the cross stick soudn better. Then, rest your fingers comfortably on your snare drum. Next, simply raise your wrist and hit the middle part of the stick against the rim.
