Drum Sticks
In order to play the drums, obviously you need a drum stick. A drum stick shouldnt be just a random stick that you buy because it looks good. It should be picked out carefully. I will show you some good sticks that I prefer. A drummer should have different drum sticks for different situations. For example, if you want a heavy and big sound, you'd have to use one of your heavier sticks. But if you are playing jazz, you would probably use one of your lighter sticks.
Vic Firth
Vic Firth sticks are great, and many players use these sticks.
-American Classic Hickory Sticks
7A
These sticks are really light and might be good for jazz and some beginners. I prefer starting out with these sticks.
8D
Exactly like the 7A but a half inch longer.
5A
These sticks are also great. I would choose between 7A or 5A if I were just starting out. 5A sticks are said to be the best, even by the pros.
5B
These sticks are a little heavier than the 5A. I recommend it for rock music.
F1
These sticks have a round tip, and it is suitable for jazz and fusion.
ROCK
These have an oval shape to offer the most complete sounds out of each drum and cymbal.
METAL(CM)
These are heavier and longer sticks but they are powerful.
HD4
Very thin and light stick. I recommend this for fast jazz playing.
Most of these sticks are also sold with a nylon tip. A nylon tip gives you a brighter sound on cymbals.
-Signature Sticks
Peter Erskine Original
This stick has a piccolo tip for great accurasy on the ride cymbal. Great for jazz. This stick also is sold with a nylon tip.
Peter Erskine Ride Stick
This is a longer stick and has a tear drop tip for great cymbal response. The shaft is wider for more power. This also is sold with a nylon tip.
Steve Gadd
Great for recording.
Thomas Lang
These sticks produce a HEAVY sound. It is a very heavy stick, but can make VERY loud sounds.
Buddy Rich
His sticks are basically a 5A but heavier. Has a nice white finish.
Tony Royster Jr.
These sticks are great for many styles.
Dave Weckl Original
I use this stick. This stick is lighter, and has GREAT balance. The small tip gives the cymbals a neat sound.
Mike Portnoy
This stick has a great feeling. The tip only comes in nylon. Has a BIG tip.
