Keeping Time
Keeping a steady beat is an important thing. You need to be able to stay at the same tempo through out the song or solo. To do this, use your body as a metronome.
The heel of your left foot should be tapped on every quarter note. Be careful not to lift your toe up, that will create a splash on your hi hat. When opening your hi hat when doing this, simply release some pressure from your toe. Watch Tommy Igoe do this in some of his videos.
Also, use the rest of your body to keep a steady beat. For example, you can shake your head to keep steady time.
Keeping time is essential in drumming. Never speed up or slow down and you'll be a very successful drummer.
