Accents
Accents are the most important part in a solo, or a beat. If you watch jazz greats, such as Buddy Rich, you will see that they will use ghost notes and accents.

The best way to do an accent is a moeller stroke, but sometimes you will not have enough time to do a moeller. In this case, do a half moeller, where you lift your wrist up only half way. This will produce a loud sound, without taking too much time.
